Country club activities vary considerably depending on the club. With changing times though, country clubs in general are offering a wider variety of activities. Trying to put on a new face and expand with the times, country clubs are no longer just for golf and tennis. They still have those country club activities of course, and many of the other traditional activities like swimming, cricket, and dinners.
In fact, many country clubs are dropping dress codes, dues, initiation fees, and cell phone use restrictions. This is in hopes of bringing in younger members. To go along with this, the country club activities lists have also expanded.
Popular activities vary by region, but we are now seeing a lot of skiing, fishing, walking/hiking, ice cream socials, wine & cheese tasting, horseback riding, spelunking, bird watching, star gazing, painting, pottery, dancing, and yoga sessions.
It seems now, country club is becoming more synonymous with country club activities as amenities like gyms, nature trails, and the like are being added. It will be interesting to see if these changes bring in the younger crowds that it seems they are hoping for. Regardless, it is good to see more venues for these activities popping up. Especially as community in general is wearing thinner. Though, perhaps more socializing in person is what we need to start creating and engaging with our local communities better. Or rather to build said communities.
Still, it depends on your region. Country Clubs often have a reputation of being uptight, formal, and elitist. Their attempts to shed this reputation and bring in new members through activities and classes including arts, meditations, and the like. What would you like to see from your local country clubs? Do you already belong to a country club or are you looking for one? What activities and groups would you like to see? We would love your input!
